Traditional
Chinese Medicine (TCM) originated in China more then 3,000
years ago with the intention to diagnose and treat illness and improve
total well being. TCM is an ancient science consisting of Acupuncture
with Cupping and Moxibustion, Tui Na (a form of Chinese medical massage),
exercise and food therapy as well as Herbal Prescription. Qi (pronounced
‘chee’ otherwise seen as Chi or Ki), considered the essential
substance of the universe, is viewed as the phenomenon that produces
all change and movement in life as well as regulates the bodies’
vital substances (i.e. blood, fluids, breath etc.). These substances
promote the physiological functions of the zang-fu organs (the bodies
systems), meridians (energy channels) and tissues of the body. Balanced
and even flow of Qi is critical to good health; excess or deficient,
stagnant or misdirection or any other derangement of the amount, flow,
or balance of Qi may result in pain, dysfunction, and ill health. There
is a vast amount of ailments TCM can help in conjunction with western
medicine, slow the progress of or manage, and even cure.
