Massage
is a way of communicating with the physical body on a level
which aids the healing of the body, mind and soul. Usually defined
by it's techniques such as kneading, rubbing, laying on of the hands
in a nurturing manner whether gentle or vigorous, massage is therapeutic.
Though massage may use more superficial less invasive means, it effects
the body on a deeper level through a network of inner functional systems.
With this in mind we can effect the skin, the surface nerves and superficial
muscle layers directl and the organs and deeper body indirectly. Massage
has been proven to improve blood circulation, increase oxygen in the
blood, calm the nervous system to help relieve pain and provide a
calm that reduces both depression and anxiety as well as release and
relieve tired and spasmodic muscles to improve overall posture and
muscle tone.
There are
more then 200 variations of massage, bodywork and somatic therapy
techniques. Many practitioners utilize an integration of techniques.
Massage helps relieve the stress, tension and activities of everyday
living; it promotes relief to people from all walks of life at any
age. From infants to the elderly, the power of touch with healing
and loving intention promotes life.
